Recently bereaved Copeland residents can now take advantage of our new service.
The ‘Tell Us Once’ service allows you to report a bereavement to several government and local government departments through one simple appointment at our Copeland Centre or Millom offices.
Councillor John Bowman, Copeland Council’s portfolio holder for performance and transformation, said: “This really helps people at an extremely distressing time. We think the service is a significant improvement in how we deal with the reporting of a death and hopefully it will save people a lot of upset at a difficult time. It has already proven extremely popular even though we’ve only been running the service for a short time.”
Trained customer services officers will make sure the information is shared with relevant departments and other authorities so you do not have to tell them all individually. The scheme should make the process much quicker and easier for relatives.
The innovative service involves partners including the County Council, DVLA, HMRC, Home Group and the Department for Work and Pensions. Previously you would have had to inform these organisations separately.
You will be told about the Tell Us Once system when you register a death with the Registrar and you can then have a one-to-one appointment with us, a phone interview with the DWP, or you can visit www.gov.uk/. All the information will be held securely and only shared with the organisations you choose.
